Hi, welcome to TheDiabolo.com!
This site and all material was created by Michiel van der Ros (1979).
I started diabolos and juggling many years ago. Like most jugglers, I taught many others the basics
and really enjoyed that.
Since 2000 I studied Multimedia Design & Technology, mostly in the Netherlands and partly in the
USA. My main study interests were Video Compositing (effects) and Webdesign. During my last year in
the European Media Master of Arts program, I came up with the idea to make a site that teaches people
diabolos in a new way.
The most important features are:
- Real slow motion; six different playback modes
- Glowing lines give insight in the movement of the diabolo
- The 3D Menu shows the relation between tricks
- Advice on which tricks to do next
- Text-search option
To get my degree, I also wrote a paper on "Multimedia Interfaces for Learning", studying psychological,
instructional and interface theories, to apply them to the online learning of motor skills.
I graduated with honors on the 27th of August 2004 at the department of Art, Media & Technology,
Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) in Hilversum, The Netherlands.
I am still expanding this website with more tricks and further enhancing the interface. In case you
are interested: The videos were made in a blue screen studio and have been edited in Adobe After Effects.
The interface was made in Macromedia Flash MX 2004, using ActionScript 2.0 and XML.
If you would like more information about this project, you can send an email using the
feedback form.
I am also available for webdesign and video/animation projects.

Thank you for visiting!
